CMS Notice of the Final Rule Making for Calendar Year 2021

The Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment and Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment Systems and Quality Reporting Programs calendar year (CY) 2021 Final Rule notification has been posted on CMS' website. The notification provides a preview of what will be posted in the Federal Register on December 29, 2020. The notice is available here.

As noted in the Proposed Rule (published in August 2020), CMS proposed to continue voluntary participation in the Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (OAS CAHPS) Survey Based Measures OP-37a-e/ASC-15a-e, until further action in future rulemaking. Therefore, OAS CAHPS will continue with voluntary reporting throughout 2021.

The next update (CY 2022 Rule) will be proposed in July and finalized in November 2021. The CY 2022 Rule will reflect any planned changes that would impact the 2022 data collection period (CY 2024 payment determination).
