Recruiting for the New Mode Experiment is Underway

RTI and CMS have started recruiting hospitals and ASCs to participate in a
new mode experiment to assess the impact of adding Web-based survey
administration. Data collection for the experiment is expected to start in
the Spring of 2019 and will take place over 3 consecutive sample months.
Five modes of administration will be tested: mail-only, telephone-only,
Web- only, Web with mail follow-up to nonrespondents, and Web with
telephone follow-up to nonrespondents. A brief statement about this mode
experiment is available on CMS' website, which is linked here:
https://www.cms.gov/Research-Statistics-Data-and-Systems/Research/CAHPS/OAS-CAHPS.html
CMS is aware that facilities invited to participate in the mode experiment
may also be participating in voluntary national implementation. Therefore,
CMS will allow facilities to participate in both the mode experiment and
voluntary national implementation, if the patient volume supports both
surveys. If any of your client hospitals and/or ASCs are selected to
participate and want to submit their data through you (their survey
vendor), RTI will work with you to facilitate their participation. We thank
you, in advance, for your help assisting interested facilities to
participate in this important effort.
